FYV 056 – Second Half Comeback

Rdevinwymanaised by a single mom, in one of the roughest neighborhoods in the country, you can imagine the joy that must have filled her heart when she first heard that her son was going to college.

Heavily recruited out of high school, young Devin was on his way to USC on a $250,000 double scholarship.

As the national news teams (ABC, NBC, ESPN) began descending on his mother's home, all eager to get the story of Devin's collegiate intentions, a group with a different reason for being there, slipped in behind the last crew.

Under the heat of the national spotlight, the bad choices Devin made in secret, were about to be revealed in the light; broadcast for the world to see.

And, as the police were leading him away from the life he once had, into a life he had now earned, he began to realize that he was paying to high of a cost for low living.

Sitting in his jail cell, more alone now than ever before; media hype gone, scholarships gone, the hope of a better tomorrow, almost gone, he made a life-changing decision, cried out to the Lord and begged for a second chance.

God heard his prayer.

Joining us on the show is 1996 Super Bowl Champ #72, the “Big Machine” Devin Wyman.

Questions for reflection and discussion:

1) Are there relationships in your life, from which you need to shake free?

2) Are there relationships in your life you need to establish and build?

3) Are you willing to do what it takes to get the right players on the field for a “Second Half Comeback” of your own?

So glad you liked the show. Devin is the real deal.

You comments reminded me of a presentation I did several years back at one of Zig Ziglar’s meetings.  I titled the message, “But someone was praying”.

I connected with so much of Devin’s story, especially “making wrong choices by listening to wrong voices”. I hope everyone listens to this podcast and receives the truth that we do not have to be defined by our past mistakes but can create our own, new “second half”. It also highlights the impact of a praying Momma!
